VBS Parade Float

"Ahoy mateys! Join us for a thrilling adventure as we set sail for TREASURE ISLAND!"

Yep...VBS is only a few weeks away. We're so excited! Lots of prep work and advertising has already been done, and there's still much to do. This past weekend we poured much time and effort into a VBS float for our town parade....

Working on the float

Some of our little helpers! :)

Like the sign I painted? (there's actually a duplicate one on the other side of the float). It took most of Thursday afternoon and all day Friday to paint them, but I think it was worth it....

Palm trees made out of carpet tubes and poster board...

What's Treasure Island without treasure?

Getting ready to start the parade! The kids got to ride the float and throw candy while the adults walked alongside and passed out fliers.

You'll notice that the boat mast in this picture is MUCH shorter than the one in the first picture of the post. That's because it was so tall (15 feet) that we couldn't clear the power lines while we rode down the street! We had to cut about 4 feet off before we could even start the parade :)

During the parade...

Some of the adults and I took turns pulling a wagon full of fliers. I think we passed out about 500 that day! For our small town, that's great! :)

Poor Adam trying to catch up with the wagon :)

Do ya think we got a little sun? :) We forgot to bring sunscreen, so we both look like lobsters now (especially Adam!).

Many thanks to everyone who helped with the parade! We couldn't have done it without you :)

Fourth of July

We went to a York Revolution baseball game in York, PA, for the 4th of July!

It was nice to have Dad Burtt with us, too!

After the game, we got to see fireworks right at the stadium...

Happy 4th of July, everyone! :)

Weekend Events

Whew! We've had a VERY busy weekend! Thought y'all might be interested in what we were up to....

Last night (Saturday night) our church passed out free bottled water and VBS brochures/tracts at the Shrewsbury Firemans' Carnival. We were supposed to be there from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, but we ended up running out of bottles around 10 p.m.!

We passed out approximately 500 water bottles and 200 brochures! The waters especially helped us connect with people as it was a BOILING HOT day. A few people even said that they are looking for a church and might come visit ours sometime. Praise the Lord!

Today we were privileged to have the Fueller family minister in our church during the AM service. We support the Fuellers and enjoyed getting a field update from them! By the way, for all you Falls folks, Mrs. Ruth Fueller is the daughter of the Virtues (a missionary that Falls supports).

After the service we took the Fuellers to lunch....can you guess where we took them? :)

We also just got home from a VBS Canvassing Blitz during the PM service (sorry, I didn't get pics!). Several church members showed up to help us pass out VBS flyers around our church's neighborhood. Afterwards, we came back to the church and had ice cream!

Please pray that the Lord will use the flyers in 2 ways:
1. To help get kids out for VBS!
2. To get the gospel out--each brochure bag contains a gospel tract and a church brochure as well.

Pray also as we prepare our float for the parade next weekend! There is much work to be done, but we are encouraged that our church people are willing to help out. I'll try to post pics of the parade sometime next weekend. We appreciate your prayers!

"Happy Birthday, Dear Adam..."

Yesterday was Adam's 27th birthday!

Our church surprised him with a cake on Wednesday night...

The church also gave him a giftcard for Cracker Barrel, so we had lunch there on his birthday. I even got the waitresses to sing for him :) He got a great big FREE hot fudge sundae out of it!

Last night after dinner Adam and I celebrated his birthday together. I made a lemon cake (per his request) and sang to him :)

I also got him a basketball and a joke book. I may live to regret the joke book.... ;) Oh well! He loves it!

Happy Birthday, Adam!

Anniversary Trip

Adam and I celebrated our 1-Year Anniversary this past Monday/Tuesday at an awesome resort in the Pocono Mts. called "Pocono Palace." We had a wonderful time!

This was the sign that greeted us as we drove in :)

Our suite was in this circular building...

And here's what it looked like on the inside!

Heart-shaped hot tub

Living room

Bedroom

Fireplace

Bathroom

It even had its own pool!

Dinner and breakfast was included in our package. Here we are at dinner in their beautiful dining area.

The dining room overlooks a lake...

This was the main entrance area. It also included a recreation area, swimming pool, gymnasium, and gift shop.

Before we left, we played a game of mini-golf in the recreation center...

What a lovely anniversary!

Bushkill Falls

Before we headed home from our anniversary trip, we decided to stop at Bushkill Falls, "The Niagara of Pennsylvania." It was only 7 miles down the road from the Pocono Palace, and DEFINITELY worth the time!

Absolutely spectacular!

Yep...we found it! :)

This group of Orthodox Jewish boys were there touring the Falls as well :)

The view looking DOWN the Falls. There was a trail that led all the way around it and back up it again.

Anniversary Party at Church

Our church surprised us yesterday with an anniversary party after the evening service! It was so special to be able to celebrate with our church family...

They even got us this beautiful cake!

Cutting the cake...

Many thanks to our church family for the lovely party, cake, card, and gift. You all mean so much to us and we love you very much!

One Year...

Wow...it's hard to believe that ONE YEAR has already flown by since Adam and I got married! Time sure flies when you're having fun :)

On our anniversary day, Adam took me out to Olive Garden for dinner...

After dinner, we went home and watched our wedding video again. It actually worked out so that we watched it right at the time we were getting married last year!

I also made homemade brownies for dessert and TRIED to cut them into hearts. :)

Since we're going away to a nice resort on Monday/Tuesday, we decided not to get presents for each other. Instead, we each made something that was kinda a "keepsake" to remember our first year. Adam just got a scroll saw (for free!), so he made me a little wooden cutout that says "1st Anniversary." I made him a photo book of our main 1st year pics.

I also just want to say how thankful I am for my wonderful husband. The Lord knew that I needed him! He gets more handsome and sweet every day....I love you, Adam! Happy 1-Year Anniversary! I look forward to many more wonderful years with you :)
